Our role is to serve the people of Colorado by providing high-quality, cost-effective public health and environmental protection services. The Colorado Department of Public Health and Environment (department) focuses on evidence-based practices in the public health and environmental fields and plays a critical role in providing education to our citizens so they can make informed choices. In addition to maintaining and enhancing our core programs, we continue to identify and respond to emerging issues that could affect Colorado’s public and environmental health.

STATE OF COLORADO EMPLOYMENT INFORMATION

PUBLIC EMPLOYEE'S RETIREMENT ASSOCIATION (PERA) - All full-time and part-time permanent and temporary employees must participate.  Member contribution is 8% of gross salary, state contribution is 10.04%. Member contribution is refundable upon termination. Upon resignation/termination members may withdraw employee contribution subject to appropriate tax. State employees do not pay Social Security tax.  For more information go to Colorado PERA - Public Employees' Retirement Association

PERA: offers a 401K plan (optional). Intended to complement retirement

PERA: has two life insurance plans available that can be rolled over into retirement. (Anthem Life and Prudential); the cost is $9.00 and $10.00 per month. If you resign/terminate state service, you may continue participation in the PERA life insurance plans.

MEDICARE TAX: All State employees hired after 4-1-86 are required to pay 1.45% of gross salary into Medicare. If you were a previous employee of the state prior to 1986, left state service and you are returning after 1986, you will be required to participate.

PAYDAY/DIRECT DEPOSIT: Direct deposit is a condition of employment.  Pay day is the last business day of each month.

HOLIDAYS: Employees receive ten Holidays per year.
